Realizing It’s My Mom’s 50th Birthday
It’s my Mom’s 50th Birthday. As many know, Stella, our mom, has a nickname Lala. The backstory to that is when she was little she tried to say her name Stella, but couldn’t. Thus, Lala the nickname was born. Now all the cousins, nieces, nephews, siblings, etc know our mother by Lala.
A couple of weeks ago our mother turned the big five – oh. It’s so crazy to think that your parents are getting older. Sometimes I feel like I have this frozen image of my parents, myself, and my sisters–we are all going to be the same, act the same, and look the same. I guess as time passes you don’t know the gradual changes until one day you wake up and say to yourself “wow, when did my parents start looking like grandparents..” I’m dreading the day this happens to me because then you start to get all the feels!
Checklist for My Mom’s 50th Birthday
With that being said, my sisters and I along with my dad decided that she needed to be recognized with something BIG. As the eldest of her family, my mom is in charge of getting everything together for EVERYONE ALL OF THE TIME. The question came down to who was going to plan my Mom’s 50th Birthday?
Slowly but surely, it all came together. We followed this simple list:
- Reservation at a restaurant that we could rent the upstairs
- Sent invitations to cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, nieces, nephews, sisters, brothers, you name it!
- Made cake/cupcakes
- Made Party favors for kids (candy!!)
- Made decorations – you can see how we did balloons and DIY pom poms here
- Put together a video slideshow
